Lord, every day we make countless decisions.  Most of our choices are minor and don’t change the direction of our lives:  what to eat for lunch; what program to watch on TV.  Today you and Jeremiah lay out for us the most important choice we will make for eternity.  The decision you bring before us is this: do we bet our lives, our eternal destiny, on hope and trust in God or in the things of this world?  Do we choose to depend on our money, power, prestige, comfort or security for happiness?  Or do we choose to surrender ourselves to the will of God like you did?  Do I want to be a happy and content person who depends on you for everything or do I want to be a miserable millionaire who depends on the stock market?  Lord, this is a critical decision I must make every day.  I believe in your love for me and your desire for my happiness.  Help me to be content with what I have.  Help me to use the gifts you’ve given me for good.  Help me to possess my wealth and not my wealth to possess me.   Amen.
