The hand of the Lord was with them… Acts 11:21

“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”  John 10:27

Lord, you signed your own death sentence when you told your adversaries “The Father and I are one.” Nothing you would say could be more inflammatory to these people than those words. But, of course, you knew that and said them anyway because you were on your way to the cross from the moment of your birth. I enjoy reading the story of your early church and how your followers bravely went out into a hostile world and proclaimed you as risen and Lord of all. They heard your voice in the scriptures and they heard it in the stories they told about your life, death and resurrection. They could not have done that without the courage given them by your Holy Spirit.  Paul and Barnabus would go on to be your faithful and effective missionary disciples. The same Holy Spirit is at work today in a very hostile world.  It’s sometimes hard to hear your voice with so many other voices yelling words not from you. Lord, you know me and you call me to follow you in good times and bad. Thank you for the help you offer for me to be a sheep in your flock.  Amen.  Alleluia
