Psalm Daniel 3:52-56

John 8:31-42

“…the truth will set you free.”  John 3:32

Lord, we pride ourselves that we live in a free country.  Freedom is a cause that many have died to preserve.  We are grateful for their sacrifice.  The freedom you offer comes at a high cost too.  You told the Jews that your word could find no room in their hearts.  That was because they were filled with self-righteousness and pride.  Lord, I pray your word can find room in my heart.  I am sometimes tempted to pick and choose what I want to believe about the truth you came to give us.  If your words do not conform to what’s inside me or if your truth makes me uncomfortable I’m not free.  Jesus, may I today surrender whatever blocks your Spirit from bringing me closer to you.  Help me to make room for whatever I lack to be truly free and to live whatever is good and just.  To become more like you I have to give up part of myself: that part which is not of you.  Thank you, dear God, for freeing me from slavery to sin.  Amen.
