“Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Mt. 25:21
Lord, you have given all of us the treasure of your gospel message. While it is a personal encounter with you it is also intended to be shared with everyone. The point of your parable is that you expect us all to be responsible stewards of the gift of faith. It doesn’t matter the amount we have, but what we do with your blessings that counts. We can be tempted to hide in fear, holding on to what we have, or we can use what we’ve been given even if it entails risk. You know very well the risks of living your radical and countercultural message. You commanded us to love our enemies, do good to those who persecute us, and forgive seventy-seven times the one who has harmed us. You challenge us to give and not to count the cost. You invite us to carry our cross alongside you to Calvary. Thank you, Lord, for entrusting the wealth of faith to me. Show me that what I have is given not just for my benefit but for building up your kingdom. May I hear, each day, that I am a good and faithful servant ready to share your happiness. Amen
