The Lord appointed seventy-two disciples whom he sent… Lk 10:1
Lord, thank you for inspiring Luke to write such a great story of you and the beginnings of your church. He was one of a very select group of four writers whom you commissioned to document the good news of salvation and your love for all people. Luke describes how you chose seventy-two missionaries to carry your message throughout Judea. It follows that you continue today to chose and send disciples to carry on the work begun so long ago. Lord, I won’t write a gospel or be a famous TV evangelist or maybe ever preach a sermon. You’ve not blessed me with that call. My faith tells me, however, that I have been uniquely blessed with gifts, abilities and opportunities to live the gospel in my little corner of this world. No one on earth has my personal experience of your love. Lord, please stand by me and give me the strength and courage to live the gospel in every circumstance and encounter today. I am confident your grace will empower me to do what only I can do as your disciple. Amen.
