Nehemiah 2:1-8
Psalm 137
Luke 9:57-62
“I will follow you wherever you go.” Luke 9:57
Lord, I don’t know what was in the heart of the person who spoke these words to you. They seem to be proper and commendable. We know now where you were going. You were on your way to your suffering and death in Jerusalem. You would soon give everything, including your life, to fulfill the mission given you by the Father. Nothing would stand in your way. Others along the way seemed to want to follow you but had other things to do first. It seems the idea of today’s word is that following you is not a part time job. Our commitment to you should take priority over all parts of our lives. Lord, you have called me to be a parent, a spouse and a member of a community in this world. You have gifted me with certain abilities and provided me opportunities to serve you in humble and ordinary ways. You want me to live like I’ve been saved every day and in every situation. This will involve sacrifice on my part. Lord, help me today to recognize the call you have placed in my heart. Give me the passion to live my call for you wherever it takes me. Amen.
