John 15:1-8
“…without me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Lord, we pride ourselves on being self-reliant. Young adults yearn for independence from parents. We spend our adult years working hard to make our mark on the world and to do so in our own way. Rugged individualism seems to be the American way. Today, you help us to understand that you are the real source of all that we do. Without you I can’t be a loving parent, a faithful spouse, a responsible worker or a wise and patient friend. Your words guide us to the truth that you are involved in every good thing we do, whether we are aware of it or not. Every time I speak a kind word, make good on a promise to a friend, even turn away from sin you are bearing fruit in me. As a branch must depend on the nourishment from the vine, I depend on you, Lord, I humbly accept every grace you provide, every movement of my heart to be fruitful for you and your kingdom. Dear Jesus, remain in me every moment of this day. Amen.
