Acts of the Apostles 14:5-18

Psalm 115

John 14:21-26

“Peace I leave with you: my peace I give to you.”  John 14:27

Lord, you must have seen fear in the eyes of your friends that night.  How could they not be troubled and afraid?  They were afraid for you and for themselves.  Betrayal, torture and death were not what they had signed up for.  They gave up everything to follow you and now it seemed that it was all coming apart!  They needed encouragement.  They needed to be consoled and they needed hope.  So you gave them the gift of peace right from your heart.  You planted your peace within their hearts.  This allowed them to look beyond the trials and suffering of the moment.  The result of trusting in the Father’s love for them strengthened them for the long haul.  Lord, I pray for your peace today.  May I be an instrument of your peace to my family and any troubled or fearful person I encounter.  With a calm and gentle spirit I can live today in your peace.  Amen.
