Acts of the Apostles: 12:24-13:5

Psalm 87

John 12:44-50

“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”  Acts 46:2

“…everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.  John 12:46

Lord hear my prayer today. Barnabas and Saul were chosen by God for an extremely important mission. They were called to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. This was an astonishing change of course for the young church.  As you told your disciples you wanted nobody on the planet to remain in darkness. The sure way to bring the light of the gospel is for men and women to live their faith as they are called to by the Holy Spirit. The power of community prayer and fasting is obvious from the first reading. The community was ready to listen to the Holy Spirit and was open to a revolutionary chapter of the young church. They even accepted a former persecutor, Saul, as the main evangelizer.  The Holy Spirit is just as present today as two thousand years ago. Thank you Lord for the Spirit to guide us to the truth and to help us live it. Community prayer and fasting works today too. Show me, Lord, the work you have selected me to accomplish. Help me to be willing to take up the cross and follow you. Make your light shine forth in my family and friends who have strayed from the truth of your gospel and Church.  Amen Alleluia
