“What are we to do, my brothers?” Acts 2: 37
Lord, Peter had just informed the Jews that the man they crucified was the Son of God. They were “cut to the heart” when they realized what they had done. So they asked Peter what they could do to remedy their horrible mistake. Peter told them to repent and be baptized. He might have also said for them to follow you as sheep follow a shepherd. Sheep may not be very smart but they know that heeding the familiar voice of their shepherd is in their best interest. They know he will protect them, lead them to food and water, and find them if they get lost. They feel secure in his care. Lord, I believe you know my name and have called me to be in your flock. My best interest is to listen to your voice and follow you wherever you lead me. You will never lead me astray. You will make me secure because you love me and only want the best for me. I thank you for providing us with good shepherds. Pope Francis, our bishop, all priests especially pastors are your appointed shepherds and they need prayer and we are to obey and cooperate with them. Lord, keep our parish priest close to you and give him the grace of his priesthood as we follow him. Amen Alleluia
