Psalm Deuteronomy 26-28, 30, 35-36

Matthew 19:23-30

“But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”  Mt. 19:30

Lord, we are obsessed with winners. Whether it’s in sports, business, academics or politics we admire the team or person that comes in first.  But that’s not the goal or the standard of your kingdom.  Throughout history you have called the weak and humble to be champions.  Through your power and grace, Abraham, Moses, David, Gideon and most especially Mary, your mother were key instruments in your plan of salvation.  You rarely picked the proud, wealthy or powerful for your purpose.  I must believe the same is true today.  The heavenly rewards for the lowly who serve you are awesome.  Those who have sacrificed much in this life for the sake of your name will receive more than they could ever imagine in the afterlife.  You offer us who serve what no fortune can buy: eternal life.  So, Lord, help me to look for your graces in the opportunities of this day for with you all things are possible.  Amen.
