Matthew 20:20-28
“My cup you will indeed drink…” Matthew 20:23
Lord, you know me very well. You see me more completely than I do myself. You knew James and John too. Their desire for greatness you turned into a desire to serve rather than be served. You turned their attention from their own status and accomplishments to giving themselves for your kingdom. I know that’s what you ask of me too. But you know, Lord, my heart’s not always into it. I pick and choose how and whom to serve. I have mixed motives. But I will keep at it. With your grace I’ll tolerate my limitations and imperfections and strive each day to serve you a little better. I will keep at it and look for you to bless the words I speak and the actions I perform. I hope every way I serve is important to you and you can make up for my shortcomings. Help me to put more love into how I serve. Thank you for calling me to become great in your service even if I’m not yet ready to drink your cup. St. James, pray for us. Amen.
