Acts 25:13b-21

Psalm 103

John 21:15-19

“…do you love me?”  John 21:17

Lord, many years ago I made a huge mistake in a job.  My carelessness could have had really bad consequences.  I thought I would be fired.  My boss showed restraint and understanding and gave me a second chance.  Was I relieved!  I’ll bet Peter was relieved too when you gave him a second chance following his three big denials of you.  You could have fired him for his lack of commitment and loyalty.  You saw his potential and let go of his past mistakes.  You put your faith in him and entrusted him with shepherding your flock.  I can’t thank you enough, Jesus, for all the second chances you have given me.  By all rights my patterns of sinfulness deserve to be fired.  Seems there’s no limit to your mercy, forgiveness and understanding.  Yes, Lord, I do love you.  Yes, Lord, I too will follow you.  Peter must have had a huge burden lifted from his shoulders that day.  Lord, help me to follow you as he did.  Amen.
