Wisdom 2:1, 12-22

Psalm 34

John 7: 1-2, 10, 25-30

The Lord is close to the broken hearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed.  Psalm 34:19

Lord, you are no stranger to heartbreak.  How old were you when Joseph died?  As a teenager were you ever rejected or hurt by a close friend?  How about when your own neighbors in Nazareth turned on you?  You must have grieved over Peter’s denial at the time you needed friends the most.  When it comes to heart break, you’ve been there.  Lord, the psalm assures us you know our pains and fears, and you care.  You are ever near to the divorced, single mom with three kids.  You walk with the lonely widow, the parent scorned by a son or daughter.  The person who loses their job or learns of their stage 4 cancer.  Lord, you understand it takes faith for me to be convinced that you will hear my cries and rescue me?  It’s sometimes difficult amid my heartbreaks to believe that you are closer to me than my own skin.  Thank you, Lord, for caring and loving me so much—it means a lot.  Be my refuge and strength this day, Lord.  Amen.
