December 30, 2022, THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14

Colossians 3:12-21

Psalm 128

Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23

God sets a father in honor over his children; a mother’s authority he confirms over her sons.  Sir. 3:2

Joseph, rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt.  Matthew 2:14

Lord, once again the holiness and obedience of Joseph serves God’s will. He didn’t say “No Gabriel, I have a better idea.” Without delay, he trusted so much in God that he took his family to safety in a foreign land in the middle of the night. He cared for you and Mary the best he could. Thank you, Lord, for Joseph. This scene is being repeated today as evil forces are forcing your followers in the Middle East to live and worship under the threat of persecution and death. Lord, protect all Christians and any persecuted families who are being hunted down for their faith. Likewise guide and protect families that are in distress for any reason. Bless those families who are embracing the values of love, commitment, compassion and sacrifice. Help fathers and mothers be strong teachers and witnesses of holiness like Joseph and Mary. Keep children obedient to authority and growing in faith. Calm the violence experienced by some.  Jesus, thank you for the family. Make the family a safe and secure place for us to grow in peace.  Mary and Joseph, pray for us.  Amen.
