1 John 1:5-2:2

Psalm 124

Matthew 2:13-18

If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins… 1 John 1:9

Broken was the snare and we were freed.  Ps. 124:7

Lord, we continue to celebrate your birthday with joy and happiness. This time of year, is so full of light.  We put lights on our Christmas trees, our homes and decorate with colorful lights everywhere. It is a sad reminder of the darkness in our world when we hear of the evil done by King Herod to the children of Bethlehem that came out of a heart filled with darkness. We are encouraged by the response of the Magi and St. Joseph to messages from heaven intended to protect you from the evil King.  Joseph and the Magi acted immediately to keep you from harm. Their hearts were filled with light so there was no doubt what needed to be done. Lord, sometimes I let the darkness cloud my decisions and my actions. But you have assured me that if I acknowledge my sins, you will forgive them. Please help me to examine my conscience with honesty and clearly admit to my failures. Lord, may I listen for your word so I can make just and light-filled choices that you are pleased with. May you show us how to protect the Holy Innocents of our day.  Amen
