December 23, 2022, Friday of the Fourth Week in Advent-A
Malachi 3:1-4, 23-24
Psalm 25
Luke 1:57-66
Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me… Mal. 3:1
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed and he spoke blessing God.
Luke 1:64
Lord, in your word today we read that Zechariah’s time of being unable to speak came to an end. During his time of silence his heart was changed, and he came to accept your will for himself and his baby son. He had a very fruitful “Advent” while waiting for the birth of his son. What some may have seen as a punishment was your way of revealing to him the awesome nature of this miracle and your purpose for his child. Lord, so often when my prayers aren’t answered the way I think they should be answered, I doubt. When your timing is different than mine, I question. My faith can waver a bit when I don’t understand your ways. I may even insist my way is better than yours. In these final days of my Advent preparation, Dear Jesus, guide my heart to accept your mercy and favor like Elizabeth and Zechariah. Give me trust in your goodness like Mary. Bless me in silent reflection a change of heart and unite my heart to yours. Today, I let go of my ways and embrace all the good you intend for me. Amen.
