Judges 13:2-7, 24-25

Psalm 71

Luke 1:5-15

His wife was barren and had borne no children.  Judges 13:2

…Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.  Luke 1:7

Lord, we read today about two couples, many centuries apart, that could not have children.  Infertility was a harsh suffering for them as it is for couples today. They probably had many questions and much anxiety as to why they could not become parents and have a family. I’m sure many a prayer was said by them to be relieved of this condition. All the time, Lord, God had a plan for their lives. In his wisdom it was a perfect plan. Its timing was right on. The two sons born to these couples played major roles in the plan of salvation. While we wait on God to deliver on his promises, we too can have doubts and worry. We can sometimes give up or question God’s ways. Jesus, when I wait on God to bring life to my barrenness may I recall Psalm 71 verse 6: “On you I depend since birth; from my mother’s womb you are my strength; my hope in you never wavers.” Lord, make me ready to receive the graces and blessings which will bring life to me today. Give me the grace for patience as I wait on your blessing.  Amen.
