Romans 15:4-9
Matthew 3:1-12
“Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance.” Matthew 3:8
Lord, I know you can see into my soul and are keenly aware of my need of repentance. Of course I am far from innocent or perfect. My mistakes and bad choices are many. When it comes to some things I know I am my own worst enemy. When it comes to others I fall short time and time again. Lord, I lay all my sins at the foot of your cross. I beg for your mercy and forgiveness. Grant me the grace of a good Confession this Advent season. When the priest speaks the words of Absolution, dear Jesus, it is you who are speaking. Then I ask for the grace to bear fruit for praise of you. Repentance is a barren tree without good fruit. May my forgiveness of the one who hurt me go beyond words. Change my selfishness to charitable service. Turn my gossip or evil words to praise. Transform my deeds of darkness into beams of light. Lord, I thank you for hearing my prayer and for freeing me from all that holds me captive. I make this prayer in your name. Amen.
