Acts 2:36-41

Psalm 33

John 20:11-18

Whom are you looking for?” John 20:15

Lord, you knew so well who your friend Mary Magdalene was looking for. She was looking for you. Your body was missing from the tomb where she knew you had been laid and she wept. It’s the same question you asked the two disciples early in John’s gospel. So why the question? Lord, it’s probably a good exercise for us to look inside our hearts and see what we are looking for. I’m not always happy with what I find there. Some of the things I’m looking for may not be what you want for me. They may not be what’s good for me. But an honest answer is what you seek. Lord, help me to be honest with you and with myself. Help me to leave behind anything I’ve sought that is darkness, prideful, selfish, or anything that moves me away from you. Help me to seek what is above and not what is earthly. With your grace, I can seek first your kingdom. And with the gift of faith, I can expect all else will be given me besides. I will then lack nothing so I can stop seeking after what doesn’t please you.  Amen.
