January 26, 2022, Wednesday of the 3rd Week of Ordinary Time-C ST. TIMOTHY AND TITUS, BISHOPS
2 Timothy 1:1-18
Psalm 96
Mark 4:1-20
I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and that I am confident lives also in you. 2 Tim. 1:5
Lord, because of their close friendship, it is fitting that we celebrate the memorial of St. Timothy and St. Titus the day after the conversion of their mentor St. Paul. In his personal letter to Timothy Paul recalls the faith he observed in Timothy’s mother and grandmother. Lord so many of us had the seeds of faith planted in our hearts by our parents and grandparents. That was the case with me, and I want to thank you for providing me such strong and faithful witnesses to the Gospel message. This also reminds me that I have a responsibility to pass on the faith to my children and grandchildren. Parents are the first and most important teachers of the faith to their children. Special training or higher degrees are not needed for this task. I believe that the grace needed to be a witness to you is given in the Sacrament of Matrimony. All that is needed is a trust that you will provide all we need to live our faith as an example to others. Timothy and Titus went on to be Bishops of Ephesus and Crete. Bishops have very challenging and demanding responsibilities. I pray for all bishops particularly that they will teach the truth of the Eucharist and Marriage to the people to whom they are called to oversee. Amen.
