Wisdom 13:1-9

Psalm 19

Luke 17:26-37

For from the greatness and the beauty of created things their original author…is seen.  Wisdom 13:5

“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it…” Lk. 17:33

Lord, it’s so easy to get wrapped up in our day to day cares and activities that we fail to marvel at the great beauty of the created universe. Your fingerprints are everywhere around us in what you have made.  From the largest galaxy to the smallest living cell the magnificence of what you brought into being from nothing is astounding. We can be distracted by the works of man and forget that without you nothing came into being. In the gospel you urge us to be ready for that moment when you call us home by living in obedience to your two commandments of love. There is a temptation to forget that I am not in charge, you are. Complacency and idleness are enemies of vigilance and readiness. I think this means that you want me to live each day as if it were my last. You want my priorities to be you and your ways. I pray, Lord, I can put aside my own agenda in favor of yours. May I seek your guidance in my decisions and place all my concerns and worries at the foot of your cross. Reshape my heart to desire what you desire for me. Lastly, show me what I need to lose in order to save my life.  Amen.
