Colossians 1:9-14
Psalm 98
Luke 5:1-11
…to be fully pleasing, in every good work bearing fruit… Col. 1:10
…they left everything and followed him. Lk. 5:11
Lord, you called Simon and his partners into your kingdom. Simon was so touched by your words and the miracle catch that he accepted your invitation to be your disciple. The greater miracle here is not the abundant catch of fish but that the fishermen’s hearts were changed and they “left everything” and followed you. It is truly amazing that they left the catch of a lifetime on the dock, their families and all they had and put their trust in you. You helped Simon be aware of his sinfulness but wanted him with you anyway. What a career change! They would go on to make a lot of mistakes because they still had a lot to learn and some rough edges to be smoothed. But these men were transformed because they believed in you. Lord, I ask for the faith of Simon and the others. I too am a sinful person but I can’t let that hold me back from walking with you. Bring me closer to yourself so I can become fully pleasing and a productive disciple bearing the fruit you have called me to bear. Your grace is sufficient. Amen.
