August 21, 2021 Saturday of the 20th Week in Ordinary Time-B ST.PIUS X, POPE
Ruth: 2:1-3, 8-11; 4:13-17
Psalm 128
Matthew 23:1-12
“…whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Mt. 23:12
Lord, this may be where we get the expression: “do as I say, not as I do.” Every parent is aware that they must model the guidance they give their children for if they don’t the kids will spot it and even point the hypocrisy out to mom or dad. You remind us of the priority of living as disciples rather than just putting on the appearance. To gain the respect and praise of others we can fall into the pattern of going through the motions of being holy. You want true and deep conversion of heart so that our actions come out of love of you and our neighbor. Lord, today you will provide an opportunity for me to serve you or someone you bring into my life. May I do it with a humble gratitude for everything you have done for me. You never sought headlines or acclaim, may I not either. My prayer today is for a humble heart of compassion and pity for a brother or sister in need. Give me the grace to respond in ways that bring no honor to me but lift up those who have fallen. St. Pius pray for me. Amen
