Judges 6:11-24

Psalm 85

Matthew 19:23-30

“Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of heaven.”  Mt. 19:23

“Who then can be saved?”  Mt. 19:25

Lord, today you tell us that our money cannot buy a ticket to heaven. I kind of know that already but for some reason I continue to trust in earthly things rather than heavenly ones. It’s not that money and possessions are bad.  What you warn about is when they become obstacles to our relationship with you. When offered a choice I can often pick the easy route rather than the one that you want for me. Gideon was concerned that he had no chance of defeating a strong enemy. But he was relying only on his own skills and power rather than trusting in God’s help. You tell us that salvation is impossible on our own but for God all things are possible. Lord, lead me to overcome my attachments to my wealth and possessions and to turn to you trusting in your grace and help. You promise that my reward will be so much more than I can possibly imagine. I place all I have at your feet.  May I use it to build up your kingdom in whatever way you want.  I thank you for listening and answering my prayer.  Amen.
