SMS Cougar News – January 25, 2019 St. Mary Catholic School is dedicated to the Education of the Whole Child  January 2019 Calendar Jan.28 – Feb.1: Catholic Schools Week To kick off Catholic Schools Week, students from St. Mary School will be the lectors (readers) and gift bearers at all masses on January 26 and 27. The St. Mary School video will be shown 6 minutes before the start of each mass this weekend. Plan to get to mass early so you won’t miss it! Thanks to Jeremy Gonzalez, Fr. Blake and Kat Deane who organized and put it all together! Catholic Schools Week Activities Open Houses: Sunday, Jan. 27 from 2-4pm for HIspanic Community and Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 9am-2pm for all prospective families. Monday, Jan. 28: Visit from Mayor Tom Price in honor of 60 years of service to the community at 7:50am. Tuesday, Jan. 29: School Mass with Bishop Noonan. Wednesday, Jan. 30: School and Church Staff Appreciation Luncheon 11:30-12:30pm Pizza/Bingo Night 6-8pm Thursday, Jan. 31: Talent Show and NUT day for all students Friday, Feb. 1: All American Picnic and Field Day 11:30am-2pm Red, White and Blue NUT day for all If you do not have a 60th year celebration St. Mary School Spirit Day shirt, there are a limited amount of shirts for purchase in the office! Our next Spirit Day will be in February. The SMS Annual WALKATHON will be on February 15! Information about the Walkathon was sent home in family envelopes on Friday. All students who turn in $50 worth of pledges will be eligible for the drawing to win great prizes weekly! Our first drawing for prizes will be during the All-American picnic on Friday, Feb. 1. More information is available on our school website http://www.stmarys-school.org THE SUNSHADE PROJECT IS ON ITS WAY! Construction on the Sun Hat to cover the new elementary playground equipment AND to add a covered area for picnic tables for our students to use will be starting soon. Thank you to Diane Braswell who secured an $8,000 grant and raised $14,000 from other generous donors to make this project come to life. We are excited for the extra shade over the playground and for a shaded area for our students to sit and enjoy the outdoors. A dedication ceremony is planned for May. Catholic Youth Sports 2019 Middle School Girls Soccer season 1/8-2/8 Middle School Boys Basketball season 1/8-2/8 Middle School Volleyball Registration 2/1-2/15 *Grade School Soccer: 1/26 and 2/2 at Holy Name of Jesus *Grade School Flag Football Registration open 1/9-2/18 GS Flag Football season 3/2-4/27  We need Grade School Flag Football Coaches…..must be fingerprinted. St. Mary Catholic School is a member of the Florida Catholic Conference (FCC) which is our accrediting agency. All Catholic Schools must go through a year long accreditation process every seven years, and we have been working on our accreditation for the past year. Our school accreditation visit has been scheduled for April 4 and 5, 2019. More information will be sent out as we get closer to our visit.
