He built the main facility I am staying at which includes a boarding school for over 700 students, dorms, adoration chapel, etc… Some of the 30 parish churches he built were donations from single individuals. They can build a church or school for about 5-20k depending on the size. They go every year to see where the $ went and receive requests for support for the following year. The community is expected to put in hours of labor after supplies are purchased or Fr Sheedy cuts them.off the next year!” Let’s keep Mrs. PIckles in our prayers for her mission work this summer! He gave himself up to humiliation, gossip and cruelty from those who hated him and did not understand him. He endured being scourged, being pierced by a crown of thorns, carrying his own death instrument, and being nailed to the cross. At the end, he asked the Father to forgive his executioners and those who watched and mocked him and laughed at him. We celebrate Jesus’ selfless act of love in giving himself completely to bring us back into union with the Father. There is no greater love……. Everyone walked away because they realized that they were not sinless. Christ asks us not to judge others because we also have our own issues and problems that cause us to sin. The world teaches that it is okay to look down on other people, but our faith tells us that we should not judge and condemn others because none of us are without sin. We are all in need of forgiveness. That is why the Sacrament of Reconciliation is important for the salvation of our souls. Gospel according to John JN 8:1-11 Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he bent down and wrote on the ground. And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” Congratulations, St. Mary School! St. Mary Catholic School had a successful and informative visit on Apr. 4 and 5 with our FCC accreditation team that consisted of a Principal from the Diocese of Jacksonville, one of our own Principals from the Diocese of Orlando, and the Director of Curriculum Development for the Archdiocese of Miami. The team helped us determine our school strengths and our areas for improvement. We are grateful for the input of this team and are proud that we passed our FCC accreditation. Congratulations to our faculty and staff! St. Mary School will have an Open House on Tuesday, April 9 from 9am-2pm. Families are welcome to visit the school and tour the classrooms, meet the teachers, and receive an information packet. Any new family who is referred by a current school family and registers for 19-20 will help the current family earn a $100 credit toward their registration fee for next year. CRS Rice Bowls for Lent All students received a Rice Bowl to fill with loose change during the Lenten season to help those in need. One of our school parents, Jen Reneau shares the importance of the Rice Bowls in her FUN FAITH FRIDAY reflection for the week. – Did you know… the rice bowls that our children receive every Lent are from C.R.S. or Catholic Relief Services? 💜 94 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to folks in serious need (that is an astronomically high percentage for organizations such as this)! 💜 C.R.S. employs 7,000 people worldwide, too. 💜 25% of all money donated will remain in our Diocese and in our country! 💜 Our children have been given a beautiful opportunity in C.R.S. to share their gifts with so many others locally, nationally, and worldwide. May we all be generous with our gifts. 😊 ❤ “Whatsoever you do to the least of My people, that you do unto Me.” – Jesus our copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? It is through loving those who do not love us that we can be truly free. This Lent, try to forgive those who do wrong to you. Do not return evil for evil. The world teaches that we need to get revenge on those who wrong us, but Jesus calls us to not follow the ways of the world. Evil influences the ways of the world and brings disharmony, division, and hatred. Evil spreads its errors through malicious gossip that seeks to destroy others. Christ loved all people…even those who nailed him to the Cross. Be at peace. Gospel according to Matthew MT 5:43-48 Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers and sisters only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” CRS Rice Bowls for Lent All students received a Rice Bowl to fill with loose change during the Lenten season to help those in need. (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action) Please return your Rice Bowls to your homeroom teacher by Wed. April 17. Thank you for your support of Catholic Relief Services! FCC Accreditation Visit coming for our school! We considered having another event during spring break, but we have decided to plan an event later this year for our church and school community. The Season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 6. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. A Reflection on Lenten Fasting If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. Life Safety Solutions Safety Drills On Feb. 28, St. Mary Catholic School had three drills with a rep from Life Safety Solutions on campus: Fire Drill, Code Yellow Drill (reverse evacuation), and a Code Red Lockdown Drill. We are very proud of our students and teachers who ran the drills efficiently and quietly. The students listened to their teachers and knew what to do. The Life Safety Solutions rep was impressed with how our students conducted themselves. Emergency Operations Plan for our school that will detail protocols for us to follow.
