January 2, 2021 Christmas Weekday (Saturday) ST. BASIL THE GREAT, GREGORY NAZIANZEN, BISHOPS, DOCTORS OF THE CHURCH.

1 John 2:22-28

Psalm 98

John 1:19-28

Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you. 1 John 2:24

“Who are you?”  John 1:19

Lord, it is important for us to know who we are and who we are not. John the Baptist was questioned because he was creating a stir among the people with his call to repentance. He was seen by the religious leaders as stealing the limelight from them. He clearly understood who he was and who he was not. Lord, I learned long ago that I am a creature and not a creator. At my baptism I was anointed to an adoption as your child. I have received an inheritance of faith from you and then taught and encouraged by parents, priests, nuns and others. The seed of faith has germinated and grown over the years. I can now say with confidence I am your beloved child for whom you came to save by your death and resurrection. My brothers and sisters of faith also are, in the words of Isaiah, “precious and glorious” and loved deeply by you. As my life returns to normal during the Christmas season I thank you and today’s saints for revealing your identity and mine too.  Saints Basil and Gregory pray for us.  Amen.
